We start by analyzing the site – including the climate, light, topography, surrounding neighborhood, views, wind patterns, and intrinsic energy of the area – before conceptualizing a two-dimensional layout. We strive to set up a dynamic tension (privacy vs. exposure, light vs. shadow, interior space vs. exterior space, and so forth), merging design and construction with spatial relationships. The key is to create environmentally friendly spaces of tranquility – green organic sanctuaries, relaxed and inspiring, elegant in their simplicity, lofty yet grounded and sustainable.
In the transition from a two-dimensional plan to a three-dimensional structure, emphasis is placed on flow, circulation, and volumes. These elements of design are less scientific than intuitive, based on what it feels like to actually be within the structure.
